The Garden

During his life Frederick changed his house many times, adding new rooms and thus increasing space inside and out. Also the garden was transformed according to a project by Giuseppe Poggi, from a simple Italian garden to a delightful romantic English garden, with temples, rock caves and fountains.

The greenhouse was realized in the neoclassical style by Poggi and was used for orange, lemon and tropical fruits trees.

Both Frederick and his mother loved horses and wanted a new stable with all comforts for their precious animals.

The Hellenistic temple has a round plan inspired by classical examples, and a dome covered with majolica tiles.

The Egyptian temple was realized between 1862 and 1864, it is situated in the lower part of the garden, on the shore of a small lake.
